The Academic Affairs job family provides services to both students and faculty to support, build and enhance Elon’s teaching mission and excellence in educational experiences and outcomes.
Academic Affairs Sub-Families
Academic Advising
Positions in the Academic Advising sub-family provide necessary tools and information for all students, allowing them to take responsibility for developing educational and career plans compatible with their goals; meeting institutional and degree requirements; and preparing for a life of change, challenge, individual fulfillment, active citizenship, and service.
Academic Program Management
Positions in the Academic Program Management subfamily are responsible for supporting and managing one or more academic program or initiatives at the university. Duties may include coordinating and scheduling program events, managing program facilities and finances, generating communications and developing program curriculum and approach.
Access & Success
Positions in the Access and Success sub-family expand access to the university for all underrepresented groups with a focus on first generation and lower-income students and to ensure that a support system is in place, which enables these students to have an enriching and successful Elon experience. This work involves developing and implementing a comprehensive set of university-wide strategies addressing recruitment and admission, financial aid, student life, academic coaching and advisement, and postgraduate support.
Creative Arts
Positions in this subfamily are responsible for the performing arts and theatrical productions. Typical activities include determining production requirements, theater management, construction, installation and maintenance of elements in a variety of theatrical craft and arts areas (including direction, technical support, stage crews, lighting, sound, scenery, rigging, props, projection, multi-media, wardrobe, hair and make-up, and artist hospitality). Duties may include tracking expenditures, ticketing and overseeing daily facility usage.
Instructional Development and Support
Positions in this sub-family are responsible for organizing, developing, managing, and providing instructional materials. Activities include: Planning, organizing, and developing training curricula, materials, and programs; Delivery and management of instruction; Instruction plans and schedules; Student service regulations and service process.
International Services
Positions in this sub-family coordinate international programs such as the international exchange program and international student advising.
Registrar
Positions in the Registrar sub-family maintain student records and course data. Duties range from helping students to schedule and register for classes to making sure their academic performance meets graduation requirements.
Research – Life Sciences
Positions in this sub-family identify, design, perform, and manage research experiments, investigations, scholarly studies, and evaluations. Develop data and information collection instruments, protocols, and procedures. Collect, analyze, and manage data and information. Prepare, publish, and present research results. Write or contribute to grant applications and reports. Identify and engage in research collaborations. Monitor and adhere to research compliance.
Research – Social Sciences
Positions in this sub-family identify, design, perform, and manage research experiments, investigations, scholarly studies, and evaluations. Write or contribute to grant applications and reports. Identify and engage in research collaborations. Monitor and adhere to research compliance.
Study Abroad
Positions in the Study Abroad sub-family advise students regarding Study Abroad opportunities and provide related program support.
Laboratory Services
The Laboratory Services sub-family provides assistance to faculty or researchers, preparing materials or samples, and performing general lab and equipment maintenance. Duties may include lab supervision, which would typically require skills in budgeting, people management and planning. Employees may also supervise graduate assistants or student workers.
