Job Family: Human Resources
The Human Resources job family is responsible for all aspects of employee-related activities. This includes talent acquisition, oversight of employee benefits and wellness programs, development of appropriate personnel policies, the fostering of a positive work environment, management of employee-employer relations, compensation and pay-for-performance initiatives and promotion of career development.
Human Resources Sub-Families
Benefits
Positions in this sub-family are responsible for benefits programs that align rewards with institution goals. Activities include: Managing insurance, benefit, superannuation, and retirement programs; Selecting and managing benefits consultants.
Compensation & Talent Acquisition
Compensation: Positions in this sub-family are responsible for compensation programs that align rewards with institution goals. Activities include: Analyzing and modeling merit and other salary increases; Managing job evaluation systems; Analyzing market data to assess the institution’s competitive position; Managing incentive programs; Selecting and managing compensation consultants.
Talent Acquisition:
Positions in this sub-family are responsible for attracting, finding and acquiring skilled labor for institution needs including: Talent evaluation and screening (assessing skills, testing, ranking, reference checking, etc.); Job advertising and posting internally and externally, including third party recruiting agencies; Talent prospecting at employment fairs and on campus at educational institutions; Talent staffing and planning.
HR Compliance
Positions in this sub-family manage, monitor, consult, and provide direct and indirect guidance on Human Resource laws and policies. Oversee compliance areas responsible for investigation, training, reporting, data tracking, and developing and implementing programs and policies. Work collaboratively with institutional compliance partners to meet legal and policy requirements and minimize institutional risk.
HR Generalist
Positions in the HR Generalist sub-family are responsible for managing or performing work across multiple Human Resources sub-families including: General HR program/policy development, administration, and compliance; General business support; staff hiring, onboarding, termination, and records maintenance; staff and labor relations and communications; supporting data entry and maintenance, ensuring personnel records are maintained, etc.
HR Leadership
Positions in this sub-family are responsible for leading teams and processes associated with the management of the institution’s human resources. Activities include developing human resource management strategies and policies to meet business needs; planning, administering and reviewing activities concerned with recruitment, training and development, compensation and benefits, mobility, talent acquisition, diversity, talent management & institution development and staff/labor relations.
HR Operations
Positions in this sub-family are responsible for administering multiple areas of human resources and rewards programs including: HR employment transactions related to hiring, termination, contracts, retirement, etc.; Personnel records maintenance pertaining to benefits, compensation, leaves of absence, retirement, etc.
HR Information Systems
Positions in this sub-family are responsible for developing strategies, infrastructure and processes that provide for the timely collection and dissemination of employee data and information, enhanced capacity for distributed reporting, and support of data-driven decision-making related to human resources.
Learning & Professional Development
Positions in this sub-family are responsible for staff career development to make the best use of staffs’ current and future abilities. Activities include: Planning, organizing, and developing training curricula, materials, and programs; Analyzing training needs and developing programs to address them; Evaluating third part training providers; Managing delivery of internal and externally provided training.
