Oscar Gandy wrote a classic warning commentary, “The Panoptic Sort. A Political Economy of Personal Information” (Westview Press, 1993), and was a media scholar and an expert in the political economy of communication and information, public policy issues in privacy and new technologies and communication as a vehicle for political and social change.
