Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

The Internet as a business resource “will only get better” … successful Internet use requires professional design skills.

Predictor: Broadhead, Rick

Prediction, in context:

In an article for The (Montreal) Gazette, reporter Ron Chalmers interviewed Rick Broadhead about the future of the Internet just after his book “The Canadian Internet Advantage: Opportunities for Business and Other Organizations” was published. Chalmers wrote: ”The Internet also can be used for procurement. Governments use it to request bids on supplies or services; H.J. Heinz uses it to buy tomatoes. The Internet as a business resource ‘will only get better’ Broadhead predicts, as service providers make it more accessible to lower-skilled computer users. ‘We’re seeing organizations invest vast sums of money in software.’ He cautions, however, that successful Internet use requires professional design skills. Too often, the Internet message is abandoned to a company’s computing department, when the message also needs input from professional artists, designers and writers. ‘It’s crucial that management take an interest.’ Broadhead said.”

Biography:

Rick Broadhead was an author of more than 29 books, including “Selling Online,” “Lightbulbs to Yottabits” and “The Canadian Internet Handbook.” He was billed as one of North America’s leading speakers on the Internet and electronic commerce. (Entrepreneur/Business Leader.)
