Kimberly Rose made the following statement in a research presentation at INET ’95, the Internet Society’s 1995 International Networking Conference, in Honolulu, Hawaii, June 27-30 1995. She was a researcher with Apple Computer’s Advanced Technology Group and was based in Los Angeles as part of the Learning Concepts Group under the direction of Apple Fellow Alan Kay. She also worked with a consortium of schools in Southern California to develop collaborative dynamic curricula utilizing a wide-area telecommunications network. Rose remarks: ”The potential the Web offers to build virtual communities is tremendous. Large and complex problems which concern us are now not only up to individuals to solve.
