Schorow writes: ”Richard Sclove, director of the Amherst-based Loka Institute, believes the public should evaluate the social benefits of a new technology before mindlessly accepting it in the name of ‘progress.’ As for technophobia, ‘Our society could benefit from a little more of it,’ he said. ‘We are too accepting of anything new without careful thought about it.'”

Biography:

Richard Sclove was founder and an advisory board member of The Loka Institute, a nonprofit organization in Amherst, Mass., dedicated to making research, science and technology responsive to social and environmental concerns. He is also the author of the book “Democracy and Technology” (1995). (Futurist/Consultant.)
