You will be accessing the Internet through your cable system instead of through the phone system. Technologies are blending.
Predictor: Broadhead, Rick
Prediction, in context:In a 1995 article in Computing Canada, Rick Broadhead of Intervex Consulting, a co-author of “The Canadian Internet Handbook,” is quoted. The article says:”The World Wide Web has not just arrived-it has vaulted on to the online communications scene. As a result, consultants predict that users will, in the not-too-distant future, see radically new services on the Web along with diverse techniques for utilizing it in business … Rick Broadhead, consultant with Toronto-based Intervex Consulting and co-author of “The Canadian Internet Handbook,” says the time is coming when different technologies will come together and, as a result, spawn a new area of Internet services. ‘I see the day when we are watching Lloyd Robertson (of CTV News) through the Web,’ Broadhead says. Computers such as Compaq Computer Corp.’s CDTV 520 and Apple Computer Inc.’s 630-series have already converged television with traditional computing, he notes. Everything is coming together. Things you would only think of doing through your TV, you can do through the Internet. ‘You will be accessing the Internet through your cable system instead of through the phone system,’ he says. ‘Technologies are blending.’ But not everyone’s happy about the cable companies’ move into the Internet-access market. In fact, it’s making some traditional access providers downright nervous. ‘It’s going to change the rules of the game,’ Broadhead says. ‘And many providers are shaking in their boots because of it.'”
Biography:Rick Broadhead was an author of more than 29 books, including “Selling Online,” “Lightbulbs to Yottabits” and “The Canadian Internet Handbook.” He was billed as one of North America’s leading speakers on the Internet and electronic commerce. (Entrepreneur/Business Leader.)
