Vision:

The “Internet” is technology of today; tomorrow, the internet will not exist but will have become a pathway for basic communication fundamental to everyday life. Today, we capitalize “Internet” because we see it as something greater than it is. But the internet is merely a tool – a resource for connecting, communicating, and creating. Tomorrow, the internet will be fundamental to communication. It will be a building block used to connect one person, place, and thing to another. It will have become the depository of information used as a basis for intelligent services. The internet will come to represent the basic thought processes and opinions of a world culture used to infuse “intelligent” services with creativity and choice. We will no longer, as a world culture, speak in terms of our individual connectivity, how we are networked, or at what speed we “surf the web.” Instead, we will move beyond these things with a basic fact that all will be connected to the “foundation.” The “foundation” will be built into all things, places, and people. At creation, all things and places will be connected to the foundation. People will be given the choice of internal or external connection to the foundation – but connection will be required as the foundation will represent a basic skill set – much like basic education. To translate this to today’s historical reference – all things, to include people, will have a unique “IP address” from which they will interact with the foundation. The interaction will be ubiquitous and transparent and will become part of the basic thought processes of the world culture. A foundation of every day being and a pathway to communication.
