Research/Creative Interests

I am interested in the area of disability and supporting families. But I have also enjoyed studying compassion fatigue in the caring professions. I am curious about international education and particularly special education.

What types of “data” do you commonly use?

Single subject design, case studies and qualitative studies

What types of collaborations are you open to?

I am open to working with students who are interested in the topics mentioned above. I have just begun to be involved with the Center for Engaged Learning project on neuro-diversity at the college level. Special education and families have been something that has been very important to me.

Student Qualifications

  • Students who major in psychology or education would certainly be welcome; but I would be open to communication majors or other majors who are interested in disability related topics and families.

A little bit more info:

I have been at Elon for almost 20 years in the School of Education; working in the area of special education. For many of the those years, I have worked with undergraduate and graduate students pursuing research. I have had several students involved in SURE and two students who have been Lumen Scholars; and a few honors fellows as well. I enjoy students curiosity and the relationships that are built over time and even after they graduate from Elon. Right now, I have been curious at how AI will impact special education in schools.
