Dear Elon community,

I look forward to experiencing the Canadian Rockies with you in July 2027! If you google the locations we will visit, such as Lake Louise, Athabasca Glacier, Going-to-the-Sun Road, and of course Banff and Glacier National Parks, you will see what a stunning trip is planned for us.

If you’re up for additional adventure, I hope some of you will consider grabbing binoculars and joining me on early morning trips to chase Canadian wildlife, including their birds. My research is in birdsong, so I love to bird by both ear and sight.

I grew up hiking and birding in the Rocky Mountains (Utah and Colorado), but the Canadian Rockies will be a new experience for me, as well as for my wife, Serena, and our two daughters, Olive (age 17) and Lucy (age 13). They plan to join us in Canada.

Elon hired me 20 years ago to help ordinary people understand science and to teach about interdisciplinary topics. I have worked with dozens of Elon alumni, and I look forward to meeting each of you and finding out about your interests.

Sincerely,
Dave Gammon
