Global Engagement Experiences
The Global Engagement Program (GEP), led by the Staff Advisory Council in partnership with the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center (GEC), provides up to 6 Elon staff members each year the opportunity to participate in short-term global or domestic study programs (18–21 days in January during Winter Term) as a professional development experience.
Program Structure
Selected staff join a faculty-led study abroad or Study USA program, engaging alongside students and faculty while gaining exposure to new cultures, environments, and perspectives.
Staff & Faculty Experience: Offers a fully immersive professional development experience to expand global perspectives, build cross-campus relationships, and engage in meaningful cultural learning—without requiring vacation time.
Advantage
Program costs such as travel, accommodations, and meals are covered, with a per diem provided for incidental expenses, and support available for passport processing if needed.
Participation
Attend pre-departure meetings and workshops during the fall, engage fully during the program, and collaborate with faculty, students, and program leaders throughout the experience.
Eligibility
Full-time Elon staff from any department employed for at least 3 years may apply; participants are selected by classification (administrative, office/support, facilities) through a lottery process.
Getting Started
Employees must submit an application to the Staff Advisory Council from March to May (exact date to be determined each year) with supervisor approval required as part of the process. Selected staff are matched to a program by the GEC and participate as part of an existing academic course or experience.
Contact & Support
Applications and questions are directed to the Staff Advisory Council via email at sac@elon.edu, with program coordination provided by the GEC.
