Suicide Prevention Week – September 8–12, 2025

Suicide Prevention Week is a time for the Elon community to come together in awareness, connection, and hope. Each day features opportunities to reflect, learn, and support one another through activities focused on mental health and well-being.

Monday, September 8: Awareness Begins with Us

Focus: Mental health awareness and education

Check Up from the Neck Up: Join us 10am-3pm at Table 2 in Moseley for Free Mental Health Screening Day, an opportunity to take a private, anonymous screening for common mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, stress, and more. The screenings are quick (just 5 minutes) and can offer insight into how you’re feeling and whether it may be time to reach out for additional support.

After completing your screening, you’ll have the option to speak one-on-one with a licensed counselor. Whether you just want to talk through your results, ask questions, or get connected with ongoing support, someone will be there to listen without judgment.

No pressure. Just support.

Take the first step toward understanding your mental health and feeling more like yourself again.

Leave a message on The Heartline, sharing words of hope, support, or kindness for someone who may need it. The Heartline will be open Monday through – Thursday, 9:00 am- 3:00 pm this week!  Whether it’s a reminder to keep going, a quote that brings you peace, or just a few words from the heart—you never know who your message might reach.

Messages will be shared (anonymously) throughout campus spaces and digital platforms to spread encouragement and connection during Suicide Prevention Week.

Speak from the heart. Help someone feel less alone.

Tuesday September 9: You’re Not Alone

Focus: Connection and support systems

College Coffee: We are excited to see you at our Quilt Square Station! You’re invited to create a personalized fabric square that reflects your story, message of encouragement, or tribute to someone impacted by mental health challenges. Use fabric markers, stencils, and other materials to decorate a square that will later be turned into a community Quilt of Hope—a powerful visual reminder that we are all connected, and no one is alone which will be unveiled on Friday!

Whether you share a quote, an image, a name, or simply a splash of color, your square becomes part of a larger story of healing and solidarity.

Drop in, create, and contribute to something meaningful. All materials provided. No sewing skills needed.

Human Bingo

McEwen Dining 11:30-12:30pm – partnership with HealthEU Initiatives

Join Counseling Services and HealthEU Initiatives for Human Bingo! Every square on your card reflects something about connection, coping, or community. The goal is to find people who match each description — and realize how many of us share similar struggles and strengths. Let’s get started — and remember, you’re not alone. Sign-up online to participate.

Wednesday, September 10: Mending the Mind: Self-Care & Coping

Focus: Coping skills and self-care strategies

Stop by Moseley Octagon Ward (1:30-4:00 p.m.) to enjoy a partnership with Health Promotion and Active Minds! The Zen Den is a peaceful pop-up space designed to help you pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself. Soft lighting, calming music, cozy seating, and guided mindfulness tools create a soothing environment where you can relax and recharge—no pressure, no expectations. A special thank you to HealthEU Initiatives for providing Legos and to the one and only Bonny Buckley for bringing sound bowls (1:45-2:15 p.m.)!

Whether you have five minutes or twenty, the Zen Den is here for you.

Come as you are. Leave feeling a little more centered. Open throughout the afternoon—drop in anytime.

Thursday, September 11: Remembering and Reflecting

Focus: Remembrance and honoring lives lost as well as personal experiences

Located in Lakeside 212 from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Holding Love is a space held by Counseling Services and the Truitt Center to honor lives lost to suicide, reflect on personal experiences with grief or struggle, and hold space for healing—individually and as a community. Whether you’re remembering someone dear, processing your own journey, or simply showing support, you are welcome here.

Activities include:

  • A reflection wall where you can write a name, message, or memory
  • Gentle music and soft lighting to create a peaceful environment
  • Support staff on site for those who need someone to talk to

This day is about holding love—for those we miss, for those who are struggling, and for ourselves.

Friday, September 12: A Community Woven in Hope

Focus: Celebration of resilience, unity, and unveiling the quilt

Join us at Medallion Plaza from 3:00-4:30 p.m. for the powerful culmination of Suicide Prevention Week as we unveil the Quilt of Hope—a collective work of art bonded together from hundreds of heartfelt messages, memories, and affirmations created throughout the week.

During the unveiling, messages recorded throughout the week at the Heartline will also be played, filling the space with words of love, strength, and solidarity.
The Quilt will remain on display as a lasting reminder: we are stitched together in support and compassion.

Closing Ceremony: Walk for Hope

Immediately following the unveiling, we invite you to join the Walk for Hope—a quiet, reflective walk honoring the lives lost to suicide and affirming our commitment to supporting one another. Whether you walk in memory, in solidarity, or for your own healing, your presence matters.

Come walk with us. Hold space. Share hope.
