Name: Terri Frazier

From: Ohio

Bio: I've been making up stuff and writing since I was a child; it's now my occupation.

Area of Expertise: Author/Editor/Journalist

Topic: Communication

Headline: The Next Best Thing to Being There

Nutshell: Talk real-time, face-to-face on high-speed wireless satellite connections!

Vision:

In the future our computers will house in-screen cameras and advanced sound-capture microphones and high-speed transmitters. You will be able to "dial up" and "ring" another computer and communicate face-to-face in real-time with never-before-seen speed or accuracy.

Just like in Star Trek when a ship would hail the Enterprise and the whole communications screen would show the caller as he or she transmitted their message, I’ll be able to ring up my sister in Germany and have a face-to-face chat.

This technology will eliminate the need for land-based telephones as computer communications become even more wireless with satellites transmitting information at speeds we can only imagine now. No more telephone poles to crash into and no more waiting for the cable guy. We’ll be hooking into special satellites and dialing up our friends and family, cheaper, faster, and more efficiently by using our home computers and wireless technology.
