What to Bring


Do you know what to bring (and what NOT to bring) when you come to campus on? Here are some tips that should make packing a bit easier.


For some of your bigger items, keep in mind Wal-Mart, Target, Best-Buy, and Bed, Bath & Beyond are all conveniently located in Burlington.


Absolutely do not forget

  • Extra-long twin sheets, pillow, blankets, and comforter
  • Alarm clock, lamp, flashlight, and small trash can
  • Plastic bucket or tray for shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and other toiletries
  • Flip Flops, a robe, towels, and washcloths
  • Sewing kit
  • Laundry basket/bag and detergent
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Band-Aids, aspirin, allergy medicine
  • Umbrella


Stuff that's not allowed on campus

  • Candles
  • Microwaves, toaster ovens, coffee makers, and other open-coil heating devices
  • Pets (except fish)
  • Ceiling fans
  • Track lighting
  • Charcoal or gas grill
  • Amplifiers
  • Halogen lamps
  • Power tools
  • Incense, Hookahs, Smoking Devices
  • No firearms, fireworks, explosives, or illegal drugs

Stuff you can live without (but you wouldn't be quite as happy!)

  • Pictures from home
  • Refrigerator (You can also rent a combination microwave-refrigerator from Elon; more information will arrive this summer).
  • Shelves and/or crates
  • Posters and poster tack putty (no nails allowed) TV, VCR or DVD player, answering machine, your favorite music, and a stereo
  • Your address book, stationery, and stamps

 

Stuff you might not have thought of

  • Extra pair of glasses and/or contact lenses along with a copy of your prescription
  • Lawn chair, sunscreen, and sunglasses (for beautiful springtime days)
