English and PWR Sample Internships
English and Professional Writing & Rhetoric majors complete internships in a wide-variety of companies, organizations, and non-profits, in the U.S. and abroad. Many times, our students do more than one internship! A few individual examples are below. You can also find a list of recent internships completed by Elon English and PWR majors here. Caden Halberg, Class of 2026
Major: Professional Writing & Rhetoric
Internship: Publisher Editor; Tessler Literary Agency, New York, NY
In this position, Caden assisted with preparing manuscripts for submission to publishers, read and evaluated both unsolicited and agented submissions, and provided written feedback. He also vetted contracts and gained valuable hands-on experience in the publishing industry.
Alexandra Schneider, Class of 2023
Majors: Creative Writing and Strategic Communications
Minor: International global studies
Internship: Editorial assistant at Seventeen Magazine, New York, NY
Alexandra researched, pitched and wrote ever green articles and trending event pieces for pop culture, music releases, fashion, politics, and lifestyle verticals. She managed and created social media content for Instagram and Threads and filmed and promoted short form video content about The Summer I Turned Pretty Amazon Prime show. Alexandra says that “her experience at Colonnades and Edge Magazine at Elon prepared me with the skillset to thrive.”
Ella Kinman, Class of 2026
Majors: English Literature and Political Science
Minor: Spanish
Internship: Healthcare Casework Intern at the Tennessee Justice Center, Nashville, NT
Ella assisted in the process of helping low-income, disabled, and elderly individuals to qualify for healthcare and achieve food security. She prepared and submitted legal documents, consulting with staff attorneys as needed.
Olivia Romano, Class of 2023
Majors: English Literature & Creative Writing
Minors: Professional Sales & Professional Writing Studies
Internship: Marketing & Publicity Intern, Wimpy Kid, Inc., Plainville, MA
In her internship, Olivia pitched and created social media posts; assisted with event coordination; proofread Jeff Kinney’s No Brainer and Hot Mess manuscripts; and completed various administrative tasks.

Internship: Associate Publicist at Chronicle Books, New York, NY.
Mia Purse, Class of 2025
Major: Professional Writing & Rhetoric
Internship: Auroraflow Massage in Durham as a Social Media Manager
In this role, Mia created engaging social media content—including photos, videos, and graphics—to showcase the business’s services and programs. She contributed to developing a clear brand identity and a content strategy tailored to serving the LGBTQ+ community in Durham. Mia also planned and executed promotional campaigns, collaborated with massage therapists and owners to highlight their expertise, and coordinated local partnerships for effective cross-promotion.
