Prof. Rodney Tigaa
Research/Creative Interests
Our research combines experiment with basic computational methods and focuses on tuning the properties (optical and magnetic) of materials containing rare earth elements (REEs). These materials have applications in solid state lighting, catalysis, and theranostics (therapy + diagnosis). Our research group uses microwave-assisted synthesis to accelerate the preparation of these REE-containing materials.
What types of “data” do you commonly use?
We work many data types, such as crystallographic files for molecular and inorganic structures, spectral data files, such as absorption, vibrational, fluorescence, etc. We perform graphical and statistical analysis with Excel, Origin, and other open-access programs.
What types of collaborations are you open to?
I am looking to collaborate with students, staff, and faculty on research in the lanthanide, materials, and microwave chemistry community. Reach out anytime!
What agencies, organizations, or foundations do you have experience with to apply for grants?
- NSF
Student Qualifications
- Open to work with all students
