Meet Our Advisor
Faculty Advisor for SGA
Dr. Whitney Gregory joined the Elon in 2007 as assistant director for Judicial Affairs. Since that time, she has served in a variety of progressively responsible positions, including director of Student Conduct, director of health promotion and student concerns outreach, and assistant dean of students.
Among her notable accomplishments, Gregory led the development of a new academic success course, co-chaired the Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs, and conducted critical policy analyses that led to the creation of Elon’s medical and leave of absence policies and enhancements to academic standing policies. She has also been instrumental in enhancing services for graduate students and strengthening relationships between students and neighborhood residents as co-chair of the Neighborhood Coalition. Gregory received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award in 2022 and the University Staff Member of the Year Award in 2023 in recognition of her exceptional leadership and service at Elon.
Gregory earned her bachelor of arts in political science and master’s of education in counseling psychology from James Madison University and recently completed a doctorate in education, in educational leadership, from Western Carolina University, where her research focused on supporting student mattering and academic recovery.

Finance Advisor for SGA
Dr. Jodean Schmiederer serves as the advisor to SGA’s Vice President of Finance and the Finance Board. Dean Schmiederer has been with Elon’s Division of Student Life since May 2008 and is currently the Dean of Student Development and Assistant Professor. In addition to SGA, her responsibilities include Student Involvement (campus activities and student organizations), the Center for Leadership, and the Moseley Center.
Dean Schmiederer’s educational background is in studio art and educational administration. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Truman State University, a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Florida, and a Ph.D. in Educational Studies from the University of North Carolina – Greensboro specializing in higher education. Dr. Schmiederer’s research focuses on students’ identity as a leader and their leadership development.
On a community level, Dean Schmiederer serves on the Town of Elon’s Arts Advisory Council and works with Alamance County’s Board of Elections as a Judge for one of the local precincts.
