February 2018

Thursday, February 1st – My Business is Nacho Business – 12:30-2:30 in Moseley Kitchen – Join GLC Student Assistants for this student-led lunchtime nachos event on the prevalence of stalking as part of Stalking Awareness Month.

Monday, February 5th – Spring Forward – Join us in Moseley 215 for a welcome back event for LGBTQIA students and allies. There will be door prizes and food!

Tuesday, February 6th – My Gender Works – Tuesday night 6:00PM Center for the Arts, a great collaboration across SPDC, WGSS, & GLC – a superstar panel on gender in the workforce. It’s the #MyGenderWorks panel !!!

Thursday, February 8th – Little Chats, Big Mood – Come chat with other Elon students around relevant topics effecting Elon and wider communities. This week’s subject will be intersectional identities. Free, light apps provided.

Monday, February 12th – “Indecent” Reading – Join Prof. Susanne Shawyer & Performing Arts for a reading of Paula Vogel’s award-winning play “Indecent” on Mon, Feb 12th at 7:00pm in the Isabella Cannon Room – Center for the Arts. Join as we read, hear, & discuss the “Indecent” script together. Roles assigned to volunteers at the start. Scripts & Snacks Provided. Sponsored by Read On Elon. All welcome.

Wednesday, February 14th – Vagina Monologues – Spend your Wednesday night with amazing EFFECT & GLC students performing The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler. Shows at 6:30 & 9:00pm!

Wednesday, February 28th – LGBTQIA Alumni Happy Hour – Come for happy hour in Durham, NC with the LGBTQIA Alumni Network at 6pm. Sponsored by the Office for Alumni Engagement.

March 2018

Thursday, March 1st – #MeToo and You – Attend this session in McBride Gathering Space from 12:30-2pm. Attendees will hear perspectives on disclosures, allegations, accountability and media responses and then engage with campus experts and each other through table discussions.

Thursday, March 1st – MasQUEERade – Join Spectrum from 9pm-11pm in McKinnon Hall for dance lessons provided by Elon’s Ballroom Dancing club as well as food and costumes!

Sunday, March 4th – Women History Month Display – Belk Library will feature historical books and documentaries.

Tuesday, March 6th – College Coffee – Why is women’s history important to you? Write cards to thank the awesome women in your life!

Tuesday, March 6th – Resilience in the Elon Woman – Join us in Moseley 215 from 12:30-1:30pm to discuss self care, health and resilience. Open to faculty and staff!

Thursday, March 8th – Little Chats, Big Mood – Come chat with other Elon students around relevant topics effecting Elon and wider communities. This week’s subject will be mental health and will take place from 5:30-6:30 Oaks Club House 106. Free, light apps provided.

Thursday, March 8th – International Women’s Day Ice Cream Social – Come celebrate the accomplishments of women with the Gender and LGBTQIA Center, The Women’s Forum and Women’s Gender and Sexualities Studies. Join us 12:30-1:30pm in McKinnon Hall.

Thursday, March 29th – Resources & Reporting Sexual Harassment in the Workplace – Join us from 12:15-1:15pm in Oaks 212 to discuss reporting sexual harassment in the workplace. Resources will be provided, open to faculty and staff!

April 2018

Monday, April 9th-13th – Spring Pride Week – Spring Pride is hosted by Spectrum, our queer-straight alliance group. Events such as Dragstravaganza, an annual drag show on the 13th from 10pm-2am, will be hosted. This serves as part of Phoenix Fusion weekend for students of color and LGBTQIA students. Other events such as BarBQueer and College Coffee will be hosted.

Tuesday, April 10th – Little Chats, Big Mood with President Connie Book – Come chat with other Elon students around relevant topics effecting Elon and wider communities. This week’s chat will take place in the GLC in Moseley 211 at 7pm with President Connie Book. Free, light apps provided.

Thursday, April 12th – WGSS Faculty Spotlight – WGSS Faculty Spotlight for Spring 2018: Brian Kremer (Musical Theatre). Join us at at 5pm in Lindner 208 to highlight him and his academic research.

Monday, April 16th – Queering the Family, Queering the Nation State: On Kutluğ Ataman’s Lola und Bilidikid – This film talk will be hosted by Steffen Kaupp, PhD (U Notre Dame) in Carlton Commons from 3:30-4:30pm.

Monday, April 16th – Speaker Alanna Vagianos – The #MeToo movement shook the internet – and the world – to its very core, inspiring a reckoning about gender inequality and power dynamics in workspaces. Join Elon 2013 alum and HuffPost Women’s Reporter Alanna Vagianos at 7:30pm in the Isabella Cannon Room to hear about how she grappled with the trials and tribulations of being a feminist reporter when people finally began believing women.

Monday, April 16th – I Am Evidence Screening – Premier watch party for the movie I Am Evidence at Turner Theater at 8pm as a part of supporting survivors week.

Monday, April 16th-20th – Supporting Survivors Week – Events such as Take Back the Night, a bi-annual speak-out against violence against women, will be happening during this week dedicated to supporting survivors and their journeys.

Tuesday, April 17th – The Mask You Live In Screening – Join students researching toxic masculinity in a viewing of “The Mask You Live In” followed by a 30 minute Q&A and discussion on masculinity and how it affects every gender, especially young males. The screening will be held in KOBC 208 at 6:30pm.

Thursday, April 19th – Take Back the Night – Take Back the Night is a student speak-out that is meant to empower and support survivors of gender-based violence. The speak-out will take place in Whitley Auditorium at 7pm. The speak-out will be followed by a reception with light refreshments and resources at 8pm in Steers Pavilion.

Friday, April 20th – Self Care as Radical Work – Self-care is not only “good” practice, it is vital to the healing and justice we seek for ourselves and the students we serve. In this workshop, we will examine the science and lived experience of stress, fatigue, compassion, and values-based living in order to discover new models of self-care. This workshop will take place from 12-1:30pm in Oaks 212.

Friday, April 20th – Trauma Informed Yoga – From 4:15-5:15 in the Sacred Space, Jennifer Brigman will be leading a trauma informed yoga session as a part of Supporting Survivors Week.

Sunday, April 22nd – iAct Facilitator Training – Active Bystander Trainings will take place from 10:30am-12:30pm in McKinnon F.

May 2018

Friday, May 4th – Lavender Graduation – Celebrate LGBTQIA and ally seniors. Music and food will be provided and awards will be handed out to stand-out individuals.

Saturday, May 5th – LGBTQIA Alumni Summit – Join Elon’s LGBTQIA alumni network and the Gender and LGBTQIA Center for a summit bringing together alumni, students and community allies to both celebrate achievements of the past and collaborate on future plans. LGNITE will offer interactive workshops to educate, keynote addresses to encourage and an overall experience designed to energize participants who will be encouraged to use what they have learned to implement change in their communities.

Sunday, May 6th – iAct Facilitator Training – Active Bystander Trainings will take place from 10:30am-12:30pm in McKinnon F.

Friday, September 8th – LGBTQIA Alumni Retreat – LGBTQIA Alumni Retreat begins at 6:00pm. (*)

Saturday, September 16th – Greensboro Pride – Celebrate Greensboro Pride that begins in downtown Greensboro at 11am.

Monday, September 18th – Friday, September 22nd – National Bi Awareness Week – Check our Facebook page and Phoenix Connect for more information on events hosted during this week.

Tuesday, September 19th – College Coffee for Bi Awareness Week – Stop by the GLC’s table at College Coffee to learn more about Bi-Identities between 9:40 and 10:30am.

Saturday, September 23rd – National Day of Bi Visibility – National Day of Bi Visibility spreads awareness and promotes bi identities annually.

Tuesday, September 26th – College Coffee for Supporting Survivors Week – Stop by our table at College Coffee to learn more about Supporting Survivors Week and EFFECT – Elon’s Feminist Group.

Wednesday, September 27th – Women’s Forum: How to Make the Most of Male Mentoring with Dr. Brad Johnson – Join us in Lindner 206 from 4-5pm to talk with Dr. Brad Johnson, author of numerous articles and books on mentoring, ethics and counseling.

Wednesday, September 27th – Take Back the Night – Join us in Whitley at 7pm for Take Back the Night – an event dedicated to ending sexual, relationship and domestic violence.

Thursday, September 28th – The Hunting Ground – Join us in Turner Theatre at 7pm for a screening of “The Hunting Ground”, an award-winning documentary about sexual assault on college campuses.


October – 2017

Saturday, October 7th – Alamance Pride – Join us for a local pride parade! Location and time TBD.

Tuesday, Octoer 10th – College Coffee – Stop by our table at College Coffee to celebrate National Coming Out Week!

Thursday, October 19th – Spirit Day Against Bullying – Time and location TBD. Join the Gender & LGBTQIA Center and partners as we host various events on National Spirit Day Against Bullying. Learn more about worldwide events during this week at www.glaad.org/spiritday.

Monday, October 23rd – 27th – Asexual Awareness Week – Join the GLC as we host various events during this week to celebrate and inform people about asexual identities.

Thursday, October 26th – Intersex Awareness Day – Join the GLC as we host various events during this day to celebrate and inform people about intersex identities.

Tuesday, October 31st – Moseley Halloween – Time TBD. Join the GLC and other student organizations in upstairs Moseley for a special Halloween Trick-or-Treat!


November – 2017

Saturday, November 4th – LGBTQIA Homecoming Brunch and Awards – Location TBD. Join students and alumni for a Homecoming Brunch.

Tuesday, November 14th – 20th – Trans Awareness Week – Join the GLC as we host various events during this week to celebrate trans identities.

Monday, November 20th – Trans Day of Remembrance – Join the GLC in observing Trans Day of Remembrance, a day to reflect and remember those who lost their lives due to anti-trans violence around the world.


December – 2017
