Adventures in Leadership
Adventures In Leadership (AIL) at Elon University aims to ease first-year students’ transition to Elon, facilitate meaningful and authentic interactions between students, faculty, and the natural world that extend beyond the experience, and support self-authorship as students develop their paths and identities within a supportive and inclusive environment.
AIL is an adventure-based learning experience of kayaking, ziplining, backpacking, camping, rock climbing, and white-water rafting offered to incoming first-year students. AIL offers different sessions with a variety of experiences to meet any interest level. We welcome participants of all skill levels–we can teach you everything you need to know! You’ll learn about how outdoor experiences can enhance your personal leadership skills while also helping build community at Elon.
On AIL, you’ll meet other first-year students who share common interests and get to know upperclass student leaders. You’ll learn more about campus and what it means to be an Elon student while also pushing yourself to engage in challenging adventure-based activities.
Acceptance into Adventures in Leadership is on a first-come, first-served basis, so submit your registration early! Registration is open as early as March. There are some scholarships available.
If you have any questions about Adventures in Leadership, program registration or scholarships, contact ELOA at elonoutdoors@elon.edu.

To this day, participating in Adventures in Leadership was the best decision I made during my college career. Through hands on, experiential learning, I left the week with lots of friends, a new passion for adventure and experiential education, better leadership skills, and confidence going into college. If I could learn to build a fire, climb a mountain, and white water raft, I could handle any challenge I would face during my transition into college.
