Life Insurance Benefits
Elon offers all full-time faculty and staff members a comprehensive life insurance program, including basic life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and optional life insurance and long term disability insurance from which you can choose to participate. These plans provide you or your listed beneficiaries with financial security should something happen to you while employed by Elon University.
Key Life Insurance Benefits
- Basic Life Insurance: Employer-paid coverage provided to all eligible full-time employees.
- Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance: Employer-paid protection in the event of accidental injury or death.

- Voluntary Life Insurance: Opportunity to purchase additional coverage beyond the basic plan for yourself and your dependents.
Disability Insurance Benefits
Elon University offers disability insurance options to protect your income if you are unable to work due to a qualifying illness or injury. This coverage offers important financial security by replacing a portion of your salary during an extended period of disability.
- Short-term Disability Insurance
You have the opportunity to enroll in an individual short term disability policy through Aflac. The Aflac representative for Elon is Brandon Harvey, (336) 991-4590. - Long-term Disability Insurance
Disability insurance through Reliance Matrix provides income replacement should you become disabled and unavle to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury. Eligible employees can choose to either share in the cost of coverage with Elon or pay 100% of the premium themselves. Any portion of the premium that is paid by Elon will result in a taxable benefit.- 70% of your base salary, to a maximum of $10,000 per month if you are disabled and are unable to work for more than 180 days.
- Benefits are offset with other sources of income, such as social security and workers’ compensation.
