GOAL: Integrate technology-driven sustainability practices into university operations to drive cultural and behavioral changes and minimize environmental impact at Elon.
STRATEGIES
Progress updates for year 1 are below.
Actions for each strategy have been identified and will be prioritized on an annual basis by the implementation team.
S1 Digitization: Reduce hardware and supplies used for self-service printing by 80% compared to a 2024 baseline.
In FY 2026, there was a 14% reduction in student fleet printers compared to a 2025 baseline. The number of faculty/staff fleet printers remained the same in 2026 as it was for 2025.
In FY 2026 there was an 8.8% increase in student printed materials. There was a 4.0% decrease in faculty/staff printed materials during the same time period.
S2 Sourcing: Maintain technology sourcing from companies that support sustainable and environmentally conscious business practices, striving for Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Gold registered products when possible.
In FY 2025, 77% of electronics purchasing was on EPEAT Gold registered products.
S3 Education & Outreach: Enhance sustainability information in Technology Guides for students, faculty and staff by 2028 and increase their awareness through annual communication, educational opportunities and workshops.
Discussions about incorporating sustainability information into Elon’s Technology Guides are underway.
