Campus Sustainability Week

Campus Sustainability Week occurs each October and is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to come together to examine sustainable habits and inspire positive sustainable change throughout the Elon community. It is also an opportunity to learn about and celebrate Elon University’s current sustainable practices.

Nature RX

Nature RX is built on the principle that spending time in nature contributes to personal well-being. The Office of Sustainability, Counseling Services and the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education partner to plan monthly events designed to give students, faculty and staff intentional time outdoors.

Earth Week takes place each April around Earth Day. With a variety of events and activities, Earth Week fosters awareness, dialogue and action toward a more sustainable and equitable future.

Programming for Students

Sustainable Alumni Speaker Series

The Sustainable Alumni Speaker Series is a virtual event series that connects current students with Elon alumni who are working in sustainability-related career. In each 30-minute session, alumni share their professional journeys, insights and advice to help students explore diverse paths in the sustainability field and expand their networks.

Lauren Hill ’24 – Engineer at the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality | Tuesday, September 16 from 5:15-5:45 pm via Zoom (Register to receive link)

Lauren Hill serves as the primary permitting engineer for Type 2, 3 and 4 compost facilities across the state of North Carolina. She provides preliminary guidance to applicants and consultants regarding application requirements, reviews permit applications, prepares interim correspondence and prepares permit decisions. The primary responsibility of her position is to ensure that good engineering design, construction and operational practices are utilized in such a way as to protect public health and the environment.

Miki Salamon is a passionate and purpose-driven sustainability professional who specializes in advancing the circular economy through collaboration, data analysis and strategic goal setting. In her current role with Eco-Products as the Sustainability Coordinator, Miki works cross-functionally across sales, marketing, product development and senior leadership teams to advance Eco-Products’ sustainability and impact strategy and goals.

Danny Bavis ’16 – Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures at University of Kentucky | Tuesday November 11 from 5:15-5:45 via Zoom (Register to receive link

As the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures, Danny Bavis oversees three main areas at the University of Kentucky: an indoor rock-climbing wall, an equipment checkout program (where students can rent backpacking gear like tents and sleeping bags) and UK’s trip program, where students have the opportunity to travel throughout Kentucky and surrounding states to hike, rock climb and participate in other outdoor activities. Danny also partners with other campus groups for custom programing. Danny also hires and trains student staff to run some of these programs.

Sustainability Stewards Program

The Sustainability Stewards Program aims to cultivate a network of students passionate about sustainability and provide meaningful opportunities for service, leadership and learning. Students are encouraged to join us for any and/or all of the fall semester meetings to connect with like-minded individuals and learn about opportunities to get involved. Fall 2025 meeting dates are as follows:
