Elon has a number of student groups that address sustainability and environmental interests either directly or indirectly. If you feel a group is missing from this list, please let us know.
The Elon Community Garden is a place for Elon students, faculty, staff, children, and community to come together. It was initiated by an environmental ethics course in the fall of 2006 to foster education, spirituality, service, community discussion and sustainability and was fully established by a student as part of a senior thesis project.
Elon Outdoors offers students several opportunities to experience the natural world each semester with programs such as canoeing, rock climbing, kayaking, backpacking, white water rafting and sailing.
Campus Kitchen at Elon University was launched in February of 2011. It is also a part of the Elon Volunteers Program in the Kernodle Center for Service Learning. Campus Kitchen utilizes unserved food from campus dining facilities and engages students as volunteers who prepare and deliver meals to the community. Elon is the third National Campus Kitchen Project affiliate in the state of North Carolina!
Elon’s Chapter of Habitat for Humanity focuses its efforts to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the local area by pledging to raise the cost of one house and build a house in Alamance County each year. Contact Elon’s Chapter of Habitat for Humanity to learn more.
The Sierra Club's mission is to explore, enjoy and protect the wild places of the earth; practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environmental and use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. The Elon Microfinance Initiative (EMI) works locally and internationally to promote sustainable giving by providing support to small business owners. On a local scale, the group provides creative work and networking assistance to small business owners, while its international impact is made through Kiva.org loans to developing countries and businesses.
