Green Building Education Intern

This position is for the 2013-2014 academic year. The intern will be expected to work 10 to 15 hours a week. Specific daily work hours will be flexible. The position is paid with a per semester stipend. Academic credit may be available, depending upon degree program requirements. The interns will work closely with the Director of Sustainability, the Education and Outreach Coordinator, other Office interns and the Eco-Reps (student peer educators for sustainability).

This intern will help educate the campus and greater community about sustainable design and construction practices and their benefits through the development of educational materials. The primary responsibility of this intern is to create educational materials such as pamphlets, information sheets, green living guides (for residential buildings), web site content, tour guide scripts, etc. for the green buildings being built on campus, which are pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Research sustainable design and construction practices and the LEED system
  • Create educational materials such as pamphlets, information sheets, green living guides (for residential buildings), web site content, tour guide scripts, etc. for the green buildings being built on campus
  • Design and produce visually stimulating materials for effective message communication
  • Collaborate with fellow interns to plan and implement campus sustainability education and outreach programs.
  • Help collaborate with the Physical Plant to disseminate information and feedback on energy and water consumption in LEED buildings
  • Others as assigned

The successful candidate for these positions will have the following qualities:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Proficiency with InDesign and PhotoShop
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to handle a variety of tasks, use good time management skills
  • Ability to see projects through to completion
  • Ability to be held accountable for own work 
  • Self-motivation
  • Environmental interest and knowledge
  • Previous experience with creating educational/marketing materials (or related course work) is desired but not required
  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher
