The Isabella Cannon Leadership Program (ICLP) is named for 1924 Elon graduate Isabella Cannon, the first female mayor of Raleigh, North Carolina. The Cannon Program is a four-phase program that uses an interdisciplinary and co-curricular approach to help students develop and practice leadership.
The goal of the ICLP is to develop students’ understanding of the nature, potential and responsibility of leadership in its attempt to create positive change for the common good.
Leadership is a process that by its very nature sets up a dynamic relationship between leaders and active followers. Leadership involves the need to collaborate with people who work together to create positive change. Ultimately, students in the Cannon Program will learn that they are responsible for their actions and share responsibility for the actions of those they can influence.
The ICLP program not only educates students about leadership concepts and theories but also provides students with learning experiences that allows them to put theory into action for the sake of their organizations, communities and society.
