An Elon Leader exercises civic
responsibility, taking action and engaging others to make a
positive difference for the common good.
Mission Statement
The Center for Leadership prepares students to lead
with purpose by realizing the nature, potential and
responsibility of leadership in its attempt to create
positive change for the common good.
The Center for Leadership provides developmental opportunities through four primary programs:
The Isabella Cannon Leadership
Program is a four-phase program. Each phase provides
a year of themed experiences: self, collaboration, change and
common good. This program is open to all Elon students.
The Isabella Cannon Leadership
Fellows Program is a selective four-year program
emphasizing socio-academic integration. Each class of 25
students completes five academic courses, the Isabella Cannon
Leadership Program and a special community project.
Organization
Development provides resources and opportunities
that challenge student leaders to think globally and act
locally. These include leadership speakers, Leadership
for Lunch, organizational consulting and assessment,
leadership institutes, the Elon Challenge (ropes course),
student organization administration, advisor development and
ELR validation for leadership positions in more than 140
organizations and programs.
The Leadership
Studies Minor uses multiple disciplinary
perspectives to prepare students to lead processes in which
people move together toward the attainment of a vision
informed by the common good.
Core Beliefs
We believe that individuals do not need a formal
position to be leaders; rather, every act of leadership has
the ability to affect individuals, teams, organizations, the
community at hand and society at large. Leadership is a
dynamic and relational process that occurs at many levels
within a group, necessitating that all members demonstrate
leadership competencies. Finally, we believe that all people
benefit from developmental opportunities that improve their
ability to lead.
