Student Initiated Withdrawal Policy

To run study away programs, substantial portions of the program cost must be committed months in advance of travel and often with a condition that charges are non-refundable. Elon’s withdrawal dates and charges correspond to when financial commitments are being made. Decisions to withdraw after stated deadlines will result in refunds according to the stated policy.

It is Elon’s intent to run our programs where the health and safety of our students can be maintained. We recognize that not everyone has the same level of risk tolerance. An individual’s willingness to participate in a program may differ from Elon’s willingness to run the program.

Charges for late withdrawal increase over time as Elon makes non-refundable financial commitments to support program travel.

  • Sept. 1 – 29, 2022: Students that withdraw on or within these dates will be billed 25 percent of the program cost, even if they have not yet paid their bill.
  • Sept. 30 – Oct. 18, 2022: Students that withdraw on or within these dates will be billed 50 percent of the program cost, even if they have not yet paid their bill.
  • Oct. 19, 2022: Students that withdraw on or after this date are billed the full program cost, even if they have not yet paid their bill.

Note: You are responsible for the costs noted above if you cancel regardless of whether you have paid the program fees at the time of cancellation.

Elon Initiated Cancelation Policy

Elon’s program obligations may be modified or suspended immediately, without notice, because of events outside of Elon’s control including, but not limited to, acts of God, war, governmental action, terrorism, and health emergencies. If such an event occurs, Elon’s obligations may be modified, suspended, or postponed until such a time as the University, in its sole discretion, may safely resume operations. In the unfortunate event of a program cancellation, Elon may, in its discretion, alter the program schedule, itinerary and content if Elon is able to resume operations. In such circumstances, there is no presumption of a refund of any kind including for tuition, fees, room and board, and/or personal expenses. Refunds, if offered, will be at Elon’s discretion.

If Elon cancels or suspends a program for reasons unrelated to events outside of its control, students are eligible for a refund of recoverable expenses. Many programs require non-refundable financial commitments and recoverable expenses are often a small portion of the overall program cost. Any recoverable expenses that are provided to Elon in-kind, such as an airline voucher, will be passed to the student as-is and will be subject to conditions or limitations that the vendor stipulates.
