An Elon application is required for every Elon global engagement program. Some programs may also require an additional application in order to be considered for the program. All online applications are due by 11:59 PM on the advertised deadline date.

Fall 2020 Elon in LA rolling deadline extended to June 1.

Fall 2020 travel-embedded Peru: Wilderness and Adventure Therapy rolling deadline: June 1.

Winter Term 2021 programs rolling deadline: Aug. 28.

Spring 2021 Study USA rolling deadline: Sept. 10.

Students that applied Early Action and are assigned the status “revise and resubmit” or are waitlisted may revise and resubmit their application, submit a change form in Global Commons 360 to switch into an open program, or defer their application to the spring term.

Exceptions:

Early Action Period: Students that would like an early answer on their application status and scholarship support may apply Early Action. Students that apply Early Action will be notified of their status by early December and GEC Access Scholarship support by January.

Rolling Period: Applications submitted within these dates will be reviewed within two weeks of submission in the order received as space is available. Students must complete the GEC Access Scholarship questionnaire by mid-February to guarantee consideration. Students will be notified of GEC Access Scholarship support by April.

All applications for a GEC Access Scholarship are now part of the pre-decision application for all outgoing Study Abroad and Study USA programs as well as Independent Program (IP) applications. Non-Elon Petitions are not eligible for the GEC Access Scholarship.

  • Students must apply by Feb. 13 to guarantee consideration for the GEC Access Scholarship even if the program deadline is after this date.
  • Students that apply during the Early Action Period will be notified by January.
  • Students that apply during the Rolling Period will be notified in April.
  • If students are not notified of GEC Access Scholarship support before the deposit refund deadline, they will be offered a deposit refund deadline extension at the time of scholarship notification.

Cancellation

Cancellations must be submitted in writing to the Global Education Center. 

  • For study abroad programs, the $400 deposit paid upon application is refundable until the first day of registration the semester preceding program. Students that cancel on or after this date are liable for any costs incurred on their behalf by Elon or the affiliate or host university, which may include up to the total program cost.
  • For Study USA programs, the $400 deposit paid upon application is refundable until March 12. Housing payment is nonrefundable beginning April 9. Full program cost is nonrefundable beginning May 1.
  • Exceptions:
    • For students approved for API or Global Experiences summer internship programs: the $400 deposit becomes non-refundable Mar. 12.
    • For students approved for DIS programs (Copenhagen or Stockholm): the $500 DIS deposit becomes non-refundable the day they enroll for courses for their DIS program.
    • For students approved for Italy, Florence: Summer Liberal Arts, Music, & Performing Arts (AEF): the last day to cancel your participation in this program without incurring liability for the costs of the program is Apr. 15. Cancellations must be made both to the Global Education Center and directly to AEF (info@aefirenze.it).
  • If you are not accepted into a program, your deposit will be credited to your student account.
  • No request for refund will be considered after the commencement of the program.

Fall 2020 semester programs

Study USA

  • May 5: Early Action Period deadline. After 11:59 PM Eastern Time, applications lock. Applicants must click “submit” in their application by 11:59 PM Eastern Time to meet the Early Action deadline. Otherwise, their application will be available to submit beginning in the Rolling Period. Applications submitted Early Action are reviewed for eligibility and merit, rather than time of submission.
  • May 7: Early Action notification. Students that applied Early Action will be notified whether they’re accepted, wait listed, or asked to revise and resubmit their application.
  • May 8: Rolling period begins. All programs with open spots will reopen for application. New applications will be reviewed on a rolling and space-available basis.
  • June 1: Final deadline. After 11:59 PM Eastern Time, applications lock. Applicants must click “submit” in their application by 11:59 PM Eastern Time to meet the final deadline.

First-year students and transfer students are eligible to apply online for short-term programs as soon as they have been assigned an Elon University ID and email address, which is approximately June 1. Contact global@elon.edu with any questions.

The GEC reviews applications with the goal of 100 percent access to global engagement. As such, we look primarily at previous Winter Term Study Abroad or Study USA (global engagement) program experience and class standing for acceptance into a program.

Payment Timeline
  • Applications submitted by June 1: No application deposit. Instead, a $400 non-refundable, non-transferable initial payment will be added to the student’s e-bill over the summer, due when Elon fall bills are due.
  • July 1: The program fee posts to the student account.
  • July 31, 2020: Full program fee payment due.

Cancellation Policy

Cancelling your participation in a program can be done ONLY by completing a cancellation form and submitting it to the Global Education Center. Students submitting a cancellation form for Global Short-term Programs are subject to the following payment schedule:

  • By June 1: Students that withdraw will not be billed the $400 initial payment.
  • June 2 – July 1, 2020: Students that withdraw will not have the $400 initial payment/deposit refunded, even if they have not yet paid it.
  • July 2 – 15, 2020: Students that withdraw will be billed 25 percent of the program cost, even if they have not yet paid their bill.
  • July 16 – 30, 2020: Students that withdraw will be billed 50 percent of the program cost, even if they have not yet paid their bill.
  • After July 30, 2020: Students that withdraw are billed the full program cost, even if they have not yet paid their bill.

Note: You are responsible for the costs noted above if you cancel regardless of whether you have paid the program fees at the time of cancellation.

Deposit Refunds – If you have paid the deposit and are cancelling your participation prior to the deposit refund deadline, the amount will remain as a credit on your account to be applied towards the following semester’s billing.  If you have any questions about your deposit, you may contact the Bursar’s office at bursar@elon.edu or 336-278-5300.
