Internships
Internships
An online internship class without section meeting times is taken simultaneously to an approved internship experience in order to earn all types of internship class credit and/or internship Experiential Learning Requirement units. You may be required to register an internship class for academic credit to satisfy your major(s) graduation requirements. For majors that do not require an internship class, you may choose to complete the Internship ELR only class while working in an approved internship experience to meet ELR graduation requirements (scroll to bottom of page). Please carefully read the following instructions:
- Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) must contact Nancy Carpenter to ensure credit. Read more about CAS Internships.
- Love School of Business students must contact Robin Porter to ensure credit. Read more about LSB internships.
- School of Communications students must contact Amber Moser to ensure credit. Read more about Communications internships.
NOTE: Students must register an internship for credit at the same time they are actively working in the internship. No retroactive credit will be awarded.
ELR Mentored Internship Class
Internships being completed for ELR units solely must be pre-approved prior to registering for the ELR Class. The class is instructed by the CAS Director of Internships at the same time the internship experience is taking place. The class is offered during academic semesters and assignments are submitted through various platforms with deadlines provided on the Moodle course site. Students are required to meet with Nancy Carpenter prior to registering on the Elon Job Network for the ELR internship class. This meeting provides an opportunity to discuss the internship course content and the secured internship experience. Make an appointment through the Elon Job Network or call 336-278-6538 to request the appointment be scheduled for you.
The corresponding course focuses on personal and professional development. An ELR syllabus is utilized for this experience to guide learning and accomplishment of learning objectives. This is a non-credit-bearing class that requires at least 40 hours of internship work for every 1 unit earned. To provide interns with a strong workplace experience, in-person internships are preferred. Hybrid and remote experiences will be considered on a case-by-case basis requiring verification that the organization has structures, systems, and policies that support and accommodate a remote full-time staff member. This ensures that the intern is supported by an established system for hybrid/remote work.
