How to Prepare & What to Expect

Research Conduct research on the companies that you’re most interested in approaching prior to the Job and Internship Expo. This research can include company history, open positions, recent announcements, and industry news.

Practice – Prepare and practice a 30-second commercial to the employer. State who you are, your major, why you are interested in the company and what you can bring to the company.

Update Your Resume – Contact the Student Professional Development Center to set up an appointment with a career advisor, or stop by during drop-in hours to have your resume reviewed. Be sure to bring copies of your resume with you to the event.

  • Dress to Impress – First impressions are important! Dress appropriately.

Attend the Job and Internship Expo – Be confident and prepared when you approach company representatives. Shake hands, look the representative in the eye and introduce yourself utilizing your 30-second commercial. Smile and make sure not to cover your name tag with your hair, folder or bag. Be yourself! Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Follow Up – Ask representatives how they would like you to follow up. Be sure to do what they ask you to do.
