Residence life encourages you to bring items that make your room feel more like home and make campus life more convenient for you.

What you should bring from home:

  • Laptop and power cord
  • Power strips (the UL approved, heavy duty type)
  • Smart TV or TV with Roku/HDMI streaming capabilities
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Emergency kit
  • Desk lamp (not halogen), alarm clock, electric fan, small trash can, recycling bin
  • High-Efficiency Light Bulbs (LED or CFL) for desk lamps
  • Reusable water bottle and mug
  • Small refrigerator (10 amps or less) Microwave/refrigerator combo appliances can be rented through the University
  • Cleaning supplies – broom (vacuums can be borrowed from each neighborhood office) paper towels, multi surface cleaning spray, disinfectant wipes
  • Linens, towels, blanket, pillow, mattress pad / mattress cover
  • Laundry basket/detergent/dryer sheets (for High Efficiency machine)
  • Collapsible drying rack for damp items / clothes hangers
  • Hairdryer, curling iron, razors

What you should leave at home:

  • Microwaves and toaster ovens (except in Danieley Center kitchen area)
  • Any open-coil heating appliance (including traditional coffee brewing machines, air fryers, etc)
  • Gas, charcoal or electric grills
  • Extension cords
  • Halogen lamps
  • Wireless routers
  • Microsoft Office (as a student you get a copy for free!)
  • Cinder blocks or bed raisers to raise beds (bed height is adjustable)
  • Candles (no candles are allowed at all), incense, or fireworks
  • Decorative lights (holiday, string, led, battery operated,or any type of lights)
  • Salt lamps
  • Space Heaters
  • Electric Blankets
  • Hoverboards (including self-balancing scooters, battery operated scooters, hands-free seaways, and similar items)
  • Pets (ONLY non-lethal fish in a 10 gallon tank or smaller are allowed)
  • Weapons
  • Power tools
