School of Communications

Elon University is one of only 18 private colleges and universities in the nation to have an accredited communications program. Part of the accreditation standards includes School of Communications major completing at least 72 semester hours of credits outside of the major. Additionally, all School of Communications majors must complete one of the following:

  • A full semester study abroad experience; or,
  • A second major outside of the academic department in COM; or,
  • A minor outside of the academic department in COM

Of those 72 semester hours, 56 to 60 will be from the Elon Core Curriculum. So while we offer you some suggested courses for these majors, we also recommend you focus on exploring courses in the Elon Core Curriculum as well as potential intro to minor courses that may be of interest.

The School of Communications Curriculum was revised during the 2022-2023 Academic Year. The new 2023-2024 Academic Catalog will include the fully revised curriculum. This will be published later in the summer. The course recommendations here are focused on this new curriculum.
