Student Advising Mentors

For the 2023-2024 Academic Year, the Office of Academic Advising is piloting a new program of Student Advising Mentors. These students are juniors or seniors who have significant experience in their academic discipline. Our Student Advising Mentors serve as positive role models who primarily support first and second year students declared in the same major or primary academic area as the mentor. The Student Advising Mentor supports these students by providing academic advice, identifying resources, and supplementing the advising of the faculty advisor.

Current students are able to work with the Student Advising Mentor in individual and group settings. The meetings will focus on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Identifying strategies for success in the declared major
  • Preparing for advising meetings with the faculty advisor
  • Updating the four-year graduation plan
  • Planning for Experiential Learning opportunities
  • Connecting students in order to create an advising community of support within the major

Student Advising Mentor Majors

As this is a pilot, we have a limited number of majors represented for the 2023-2024 Academic Year, with the expectation to grow the program. Students in their first or second year can request to meet with Student Advising Mentors in:

  • The Love School of Business (all majors)
  • Psychology
  • Public Health Studies

Select the major to go to the bio page for the mentors in each respective area.
