International Admissions Requirements

First-Year Application

Applying to Elon is easy. Choose the platform that works best for you: the Elon University application or the Common Application.

All first-year applicants must submit:

  • Completed application and nonrefundable $60 fee
  • Official High School/Secondary School Transcript/Records
  • SAT or ACT scores (optional)
  • TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test scores (see exceptions below)
  • Completed School Report (included in the application)

At Elon, we pride ourselves in being student-centered and a strong emphasis is placed on personal relationships. A significant part of your experience here will be engaging with your classmates, your professors, and the broader community.

If you have chosen to include an InitialView interview as part of your application process, we would invite you to provide it to us. It provides us with an additional way to imagine how you would engage with all that Elon has to offer.

Official High School/Secondary School Transcript

All academic records must be submitted in English by your designated school official directly to Elon’s Office of Admissions.

Test Scores

Submission of SAT or ACT results is not required for admissions consideration.

If you are attending a school where English is not the primary language of instruction, you must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test scores.

  • Minimum TOEFL score requirement: 80 (internet-based test)
  • Minimum IELTS score requirement: 6.5
  • Minimum Duolingo English Test requirement: 110

Merit-Based Scholarships and Financial Aid for International Students

We know financing your education is an important topic to cover when deciding where to apply and ultimately enroll.

All first-year Elon applicants are considered for our Presidential Scholarship, Elon Engagement Scholarship, and International Scholar Award. The Fellows Program and Scholars Program are additional merit-based scholarship opportunities, and require a supplementary application and interview selection process. The total scholarship range for international applicants is between $3,000 – $23,500 USD per year.

Elon is not able to offer need-based financial aid for non-U.S. citizens currently. We also do not offer full scholarships. If you are a U.S. citizen living abroad, you are eligible for financial aid by completing the FAFSA and CSS profile.

Visa Process

Non-U.S. citizens who decide to enroll at Elon must submit:

  • A clear copy of your passport
  • Completed Certificate of Financial Responsibility form
  • Original bank statement or letter from the bank issued within the last 6 months

These documents are not required for the application review process and can be submitted after admission into the university. This information will be used to issue your I-20, which is needed to obtain your F-1 student visa.

Application Information

Students who want to study abroad at Elon must submit:

The following information is not required for the application review process; however, it is required if a student is accepted and plans to enroll at Elon University:

 

  • Photocopy of your passport(s) (required for all applicants from outside the U.S.)
  • Completed Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR) form (available via the Acorn Account)
  • Original bank statement or letter from the bank issued within the last 6 months

Please note that this information can be sent in with the application and is not used in the decision process.

Visa Information

Non–U.S. citizens seeking admission to Elon must submit a Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR). A DS-2019, necessary to obtain your J-1 visa, will then be issued. Students must schedule an appointment with the consulate in their home country to be considered for a visa.
