Elon University will host the Department of Accounting and Finance 3rd Annual Spring Continuing Professional Educational Seminar for accounting professionals on Monday, May 19, 2008, from 8:30am - 4:30pm. The event will be held in Elon University's Moseley Center and is presented by the Department of Accounting and Finance of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business and Elon University Executive Education.

Topics to be covered are:

Audits conducted by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB)
Methodologies used by TTB when conducting audits of TTB’s permit holders. Background and history of TTB and responsibilities of the Bureau’s Tax Audit division in collecting the revenue from manufacturers of alcohol, tobacco and firearms and ensuring compliance by the regulated industries.


The New Face of Internal Audit: Changes and Trends
The transformation of Internal Audit from “Compliance Cops” to “Value Added Business Partners.” The many faces of internal audit departments from in-house to co-sourced to wholly out-sourced shops. Top concerns on Chief Audit Executives minds and an overview of financial, operational, and information technology audit techniques and roles.


NC Office of the State Auditor: Who Are we? What do we do? Why should anybody care?
Financial Audit, Performance Audit, Investigative Audit, Information Systems Audit, and NGO (Non-Governmental Organizations, non profits and grants). Examples of recent OSA audits will be briefed and findings examined.


North Carolina Tax Ethics: CPA Laws and Rules
Fulfills the ethics requirement as stated in 21 NCAC 08G .0410, Professional Ethics and Conduct CPE.
