The MIT Enterprise Forum is excited to present an insight into entrepreneurship from a leading thinker and respected investor. Ann Winblad has over 25 years of software industry experience as both a successful entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Her discussion with Technology Review editor in chief Jason Pontin will focus on:

  • why some technology startups succeed where others fail,
  • her philosophy of funding tech companies, and
  • what makes for a great entrepreneur.

This broadcast will also spotlight the next wave of great entrepreneurs with a focus on members of the TR35, the top innovators under the age of 35.

   AIA/CES Provider Workshop

Be part of an audience-centered, informal and dialogue-friendly workshop experience for CES Registered Providers and those interested in becoming Providers.  This workshop will cover the CES basics, best practices and “non-negotiables”, administration for face-to-face programs via fax and online, marketing strategies, instructional systems design (ISD) tips, developing learning objectives and effective PowerPoints so you can design your programs properly in the context of the CES policy. 

Then we’re going to ask that you guide our discussion for the rest of the session.  You can tell US what you need and want to know to help you develop and/or deliver a successful architectural program that teaches our members what THEY need to know.  Format may vary based on types of attendees and needs.  Registration includes lunch and program materials.

Seating limited intentionally to benefit you.  So, mark your calendar and reserve your space!

Former LabCorp CEO Mac Mahon lecture March 27

Tom Mac Mahon, chairman and former chief executive officer of Laboratory Corportation of America (LabCorp), will discuss his efforts to build the company and raise its profile during a public lecture at 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 27 in the LaRose Digital Theatre, located in the Koury Business Center.

The lecture is Mac Mahon’s first as Executive-in-Residence at Elon’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. He will visit campus regularly to discuss specific business issues with students and faculty and participate in undergraduate, MBA and Executive Education programs.

Mac Mahon has served as LabCorp chairman since 1996 and served as chief executive officer from 1997 to 2006. LabCorp is one of the world’s largest clinical laboratories, with revenues of approximately $3.6 billion and more than 25,000 employees. LabCorp has been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the best performing companies in the U.S., and a 2004 Forbes article featured Mac Mahon’s efforts to build LabCorp into the nation’s second-largest clinical laboratory.

Mac Mahon played a pioneering role in commercializing the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology, which has enabled the rapid growth of molecular diagnostic testing for infectious diseases, genetics and oncology.

Before joining LabCorp, Mac Mahon held various executive positions with Hoffmann-La Roche, serving as senior vice president from 1993 to 1997 and president of Roche Diagnostics Group from 1988 to 1996. Mac Mahon earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from St. Peter’s College and an MBA in marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Elon University's Office of Gift Planning sponsored a GiftLaw Teleconference on the subject of Senior Women Donors on April 27, 2006.  This presentation gave viewers a better understanding of how to provide top-quality counsel and assistance for their senior women donors.


The Power of Angel Investing Seminar

The Martha & Spencer Love School of Business hosted The Power of Angel Investing, a seminar presented by the North Carolina Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) in cooperation with the Kauffman Foundation.  The seminar was held in the Moseley Center on November 30, 2005.

The Power of Angel Investing is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of angel investing for accredited investors with or without angel investment experience. The seminar is offered in a "protected environment" without solicitations from service providers and entrepreneurs looking for angel financing.
