Elon's undergraduate enrollment is in the 90th percentile of U.S. private colleges and universities and is the third largest among private institutions in North Carolina. The large majority of Elon's peers are now designated as universities, and the list of top 25 admissions competitors includes UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, Wake Forest University, Clemson University, James Madison University, University of Virginia, University of Maryland, UNC-Greensboro and UNC-Charlotte.
U.S.News & World Report ranks Elon University #2 among 118 Southern master's-level universities in its 2009 "America's Best Colleges" guide. This is Elon's highest ranking ever in the nation's most widely read survey of quality in higher education.
Elon has been named one of the top schools in the nation for international education by NAFSA: Association of International Educators. The university is one of four institutions to receive the organization’s prestigious 2007 Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization. The award is given to universities for innovative and creative internationalization efforts, including study abroad, international student services and programs that encourage education about other cultures.
