Fr. Gerry Waterman I am a Conventual Franciscan Friar (since 1975), which means that I am a follower of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron of Italy, of Ecology, and probably the most internationally well-known saint. I was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in May, 1985, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany, NY. I am a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Province of Conventual Franciscans, which is one of five Provinces here in the United States. Our headquarters (Provincial House) is in Ellicott City, MD. I have had many and diverse ministerial experiences during my years as a Franciscan, from high school and seminary teacher to vocation and mission ministry, from treasurer of our college-seminary to wine maker! I spent many years in Parochial Ministry, in New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut and Georgia. I ministered at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Danbury, CT two times, for three years as parochial vicar and four years as Pastor and Guardian, with a year in between, giving birth to a new parish in Dallas, GA.
While
in CT I was closest to my biological family, and it was a joy
to be there for seven years, especially during the formative
years of my three nephews, Joe, Brian and Shawn.
Catholic Masses are held on
campus on Sunday evenings at 6PM and 9PM during school
semesters, at the Elon Community Church, corner of
Williamson and Haggard Aves. All are welcome. See our website for more
information.
