Quest is a First-Year Summer Experience designed for interfaith understanding and exploration.  The group will travel to Atlanta, GA and visit places of worship for several major world religions, spending time with leaders of those traditions, learning of their history, practices, and beliefs.  Where appropriate, we will participate in worship/prayer/meditation opportunities alongside members of the various faith communities we encounter.  Quest is a partnership between New Student Orientation and the Truitt Center for Religious & Spiritual Life.

Dates:July 11-17, 2012
(the nights of July 11 & 16 will be on Elon's campus)

Cost:$325

Location: Atlanta, GA provides a diverse assortment of authentic worshipping communities with permanent, dedicated worship spaces in well established communities.  For example, Congregation Beth Jacob is an Orthodox Synagogue situated in a community of Orthodox Jewish persons.  The Masjid al-Farooq is a Mosque situated in a community of Muslim congregants who walk there for prayer & education.  Both have community outreach programs on site or nearby.  The largest Hindu Temple in North America is in Atlanta and there are numerous Buddhist communities as well. Atlanta also has public transportation and a variety of cultural offerings (Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, Stone Mountain, Atlanta Braves baseball, etc.) to supplement the educational and team building experience.

Collaboration: The McAfee School of Theology (Mercer University) will provide space for meetings & discussions, lodging, as well as faculty resources for seminars in interfaith exploration.
