LIVING LEARNING ASSISTANTS (LLAs)

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Over the past decade, Elon has invested upwards of $100 million to create one of the nation’s most vibrant residential campuses. Living & Learning at Elon is a unique initiative that integrates students’ academic and residential experiences in order to further their intellectual, personal and community development as lifelong learners and responsible global citizens. Faculty, staff, and student partnership is integral to the success of this initiative.

Living-Learning Assistants (LLA) are rising sophomore student leaders who work in partnership with the Faculty Director in their respective neighborhood. LLAs, Faculty Directors, and other neighborhood leadership all work to cultivate intellectual neighborhoods that motivate students to build relationships and deepen their academic experience.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Neighborhood Programming
    • Regular meetings with the Faculty Director and meet periodically with Residence Life staff such as the Community Director, Senior Resident Assistant (SRAs) and Resident Assistants (RAs)
    • Assist with planning, implementation, and facilitation of neighborhood programs
    • Assess program effectiveness alongside Faculty and Community Directors
    • Regularly attend neighborhood programs and encourage similar student participation
  • Student and Community Engagement 
    • Bring a critical student voice to the Student Neighborhood Association. Neighborhood Associations support Living and Learning at Elon by creating and implementing an integrative, engaging, interdisciplinary learning plan for their respective neighborhood.
    • Serve as a student representative on the University’s First Year Experience Committee
      Create social media content designed to engage with students and advertise neighborhood programs
    • Under the direction of the Faculty Director, the LLA will create content that tells the story of the neighborhood to the broader campus community. This includes writing Today at Elon articles and social media posts.
  • Additional Department Support 
    • Serve as a positive role model, and abide by all University guidelines and policies as well as the Elon Honor Code.

TIME COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION
LLAs will work approximately 4-6 hours per week and are encouraged to do 1-2 of those hours in their respective neighborhood offices; compensation is $1,000 per academic year ($500 stipend per semester). In addition, LLAs receive priority housing as a rising sophomore in their assigned neighborhood. LLAs are expected to work from August to May.

This position is a live-in position that requires LLAs to be rising sophomores who live on-campus and preferably in the respective neighborhood where they are assigned, however consideration and priority housing will be given within the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods. Below you will see the priority housing options by position-

  • Oaks LLA: 2- or 4-person apartment (must fill the entire apartment)
  • Danieley LLA: double room in Danieley or an apartment (will allow to pull in 1 roommate, flat mates, and apartment mates)
  • East LLA: double East or a double or single in Colonnades
  • Global LLA: double or single room in Global (will allow to pull in 1 roommate or pod mate)
  • Colonnades LLA: double or single room in Colonnades (will allow to pull in 1 roommate or pod-mate – 4 person pods are not an option)
  • Historic LLA: double or single room in Historic, double or single room in Colonnades (will allow to pull in 1 roommate or pod mate – 4 person pods are not an option), or a 2-4 person Oaks apartment
