MARKETING INTERNS

Residence Life employees a team of marketing interns focused on video production, social media, advertisement and content development. We have two distinct internship roles within our department listed below. We encourage applications from any major, but you must have strong background in social media, writing, marketing, and/or video production.  

  • Social Media and Content Development Intern- This intern will create digital content for our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and e-net articles that highlight living and learning at Elon experiences as well as residence life processes. Intern will also help structure and oversee each of the residential neighborhoods social media plans and content at times as well.
  • Video Production Intern- This intern will shoot, edit and produce videos that will be distributed through digital and social media outlets that highlight Living and Learning at Elon as well as Residence life processes.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Primary Duties of the Social Media and Content Development Intern– This marketing Intern will generate, edit, publish and share daily content that builds meaningful connections and encourages the target market to take action. You will then capture and analyze the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices for each platform. In addition to managing social media, you will be asked to capture accompanying photos and/or work with the Video Production Intern to create multimedia content for your platforms. Additionally, this position may provide office support for the Residence Life office. General office duties such answering the phones, providing assistance for office visitors, errands, and budget entries may also be required.
    1. To excel in the internship position, candidates should have the following skills:
      1. Understand and be supportive of Residence Life’s overall mission.
      2. Actively seek out and propose creative new ways to engage the target market.
        Be able to write in a succinct yet friendly, conversational voice without compromising proper grammar and spelling.
      3. Be very savvy and creative with social media.
      4. Be comfortable attending events across campus, soliciting interviews, fielding questions, and collaborating with other Residence Life staff members.
      5. Be highly organized and a team player.
      6. Experience with digital photography and how to use a DSLR camera.
      7. A working knowledge of the photo and graphic software.
      8. Any experience you have with social media strategy or building an online community for an organization.
  2. Primary Duties of the Video Production Intern- This intern will shoot, edit and produce videos that will be distributed through digital and social media outlets that highlight Living and Learning at Elon as well as Residence life processes. In addition to managing social media, you will be asked to capture accompanying photos and/or work with the Video Production Intern to create multimedia content for your platforms.
    1. To excel in the internship position, candidates should have the following skills:
      1. Understand and be supportive of the department’s overall mission.
      2. Actively seek out and propose creative new story ideas.
      3. Be comfortable shooting interviews and B-roll at events across campus.
      4. Have experience shooting digital video with demonstrated ability to achieve professional quality lighting, composition, and audio.
      5. Have experience editing footage.

TIME COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION

A minimum 10-hour commitment per week is required, with some evening work included. The time spent writing/editing is flexible and can be scheduled around classes. This position receives an hourly rate of $13.00.
