Nim – Maker Mentor
Welcome Faculty Emeritus Nim Bachelor as the Maker Hub’s first-ever Maker Mentor! A recently retired Philosophy professor, Nim knows his way around the Maker Hub. Nim has experience with electronics projects and 3D modeling using Fusion 360 and is an experienced woodworker.
This year, Nim will have regular office hours in the Hub (Mondays, 6-9 in MH-Downtown), lead a workshop (details to come), help mentor Elon Kickbox students, and create the newest escape room for Maker Takeover 2025. We are very excited to have Nim supporting Elon students and faculty/staff as they explore ideas and make stuff.

- Woodworking

What do classes do in the Maker Hub? Here are photos from courses that have worked with the Maker Hub on an activity or assignment. For more details, please scroll down and explore them by discipline.
Current Issues in Environmental Studies – Jacob Rutz: Students designed and built rocket stoves from recycled aluminum cans.
Students assembled Google Cardboards and customized them to serve as an extension of a VR experience they created for a previous assignment in Multimedia Journalism.
Charles Irons - History: Students handled 3D printed versions of artifacts of enslaved people and completed an informal writing assignment on what can be learned about the lives and experiences of enslaved people by attending to the material culture of US slavery.
Authenticity: True Self - Alexis Franzese: Students went through a sketching exercise and designed a letter from the word Authenticity that represented their true self.
Bringing the Venture to Life - Sean McMahon: Students were required to apply what they've learned at the Maker Hub in previous Entrepreneurship classes to create a personalized light-up sign.
Elementary Latin - Tedd Wimperis: Students researched, identified, and 3D-printed an artifact of significance to the course content. They then created a museum exhibit of the artifacts.
Environmental Studies Senior Seminar - Janet MacFall: Students designed and 3D printed tactile elements to enhance signage for the new Cane Creek Mountain Park, a new park in Alamance county.
Kaleb Corbin, student: 3D printed a hand and replicated the tendons with fabric for an anatomy assignment.
Communication Design - Ahmed Abdullah Al Fadaam: Students co-designed their ideal superhero. The hero is a female, has a bionic arm, mohawk, and can control your mind. Ahmed 3D printed the model and shared it with his class.
Music Technology - Clay Stevenson: Students practiced soldering by repairing audio cables.
Biology - Eric Bauer: 3D scans and prints animal bones from the collections of Elon professors. These 3D replicas are used in-class exercises were handling the real bones could potentially damage them.
Research - Jen Hamel: Student iterated on a design to create low-cost waterproof instruments to detect katydid vibrations.
Students edit an Illustrator file of a flattened cube. The assignment is to alter the file, so the laser cut and assembled cube is a specific size.
Psychology of Gender and Sex - Rachel Force: Students participated in activities with a history of gendered stereotypes and discussed those stereotypes.
Paths to Inquiry in the Arts & Sciences – Heather Lindenman: Students created a project based on their interests, like the flip light this student is working on. They later composed a reflection about their experience at the Maker Hub and used their experiences to brainstorm potential research questions for a future assignment.
Materials in your World - Scott Wolter: Students used the ancient method of flint knapping to create arrowheads.
