Facility Assistants (FAs)
The Facility Assistant (FA) assists with the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the residence halls and apartments, as well as the ongoing preservation of facilities and services within these communities. The Facility Assistant is co-supervised by the Community Director of the neighborhood and the Assistant Director of Housing Operations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
FAs are responsible for the day-to-day operation and administration of their designated building. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, walkthroughs of the buildings and reporting information to appropriate persons, monitoring maintenance and custodial concerns, and assisting other departmental and university staff in on-going development efforts in their buildings.
- Facilities Management
- Serve as a liaison between Physical Plant, building staff, students, and residence life.
- Tour buildings twice weekly to monitor facilities. Report issues to Community Director and appropriate Neighborhood staff.
- Assist the department in recommending capital improvements.
- Communicate with building staff and students regarding physical maintenance and cleanliness concerns.
- Be familiar with FIXIT, the on-line work order request system, and educate staff and residents about using the system.
- Enter and track work orders on the FIXIT system.
- Report and follow up on maintenance concerns.
- Other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Building Responsibilities
- Attend staff meetings as directed by Community Director and the Assistant Director for Housing Operations
- Participate in health and safety inspections with neighborhood staff.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures at each break and semester start.
- Be familiar with university policies and uphold them.
- Act as a liaison to Physical Plant in conjunction with other Residence Life staff.
- Assist in organizing and presenting department trainings.
TIME COMMITTMENT AND COMPENSATION
This is a 10 month appointment, working approximately 5-10 hours per week (more during peak times) and also staying late or returning early during break periods to ensure room readiness. Facility Assistants will receive $9.00/hr.
