Established in 2013 by a donor committed to helping students fulfill their dreams of a higher education, this award is for an Alamance Community College transfer with preference given to Alamance County residents.

The scholarship will be awarded to one transfer student from Alamance Community College who demonstrates outstanding character and who shows academic promise and talent valued by the Elon community. This scholarship is intended to support a student with documented financial need and who would be unable to attend Elon without significant financial assistance. One scholarship is awarded and a new recipient will be selected during the final semester of the previous recipient’s enrollment.

Note: Alamance Community College students need to submit an application for transfer admission and all supporting application requirements on or before May 1 to be considered.

The Award

One scholarship of $22,500 will be awarded and applied to direct costs. It is renewable annually based on academic performance, citizenship and full-time enrollment. Since employee dependents are eligible for tuition remission, this scholarship is not available to them.

Application

No separate application is necessary. Every admissible student from Alamance Community College with at least 24 transferrable credit hours will be considered for this award.

Selection Criteria

Students whose academic success at Alamance Community College and whose profile of activities and involvement indicate leadership and commitment will be invited to interview with the selection committee. Recipients will be chosen from among those candidates whose credentials and interview most closely meet the guidelines for the award. Announcement of the recipient will be made in the spring semester prior to fall enrollment. The award will be contingent on successful completion of all transferrable ACC coursework as reflected on the official final transcript. The Selection Committee will include members of the Elon University Office of Admissions and Financial Planning staff, including the staff adviser to the Transfer Student Organization.

The recipient may also receive any need-based aid for which they qualify. If a student receives scholarships or grants from sources other than Elon University and the combination of all scholarships and grants exceeds the cost of attendance (tuition, fees, room and board plus Elon’s annual estimate for books, transportation and miscellaneous expenses) the amount in excess of this cost of attendance will be used to reduce the amount of Elon University scholarships and grants awarded to the student.

Maintaining Scholarship Eligibility

Students must maintain at least a 2.7 cum GPA and be enrolled full-time at Elon, maintaining 28 credit hours per year or more. On-campus residency is not required. Scholarship recipients must be continuously enrolled at Elon. If a student becomes ineligible to retain this award, scholarship funds will not be reinstated at a later date.
