Multifaith Immersion Experiences

Multifaith Immersion Experiences are a range of immersive programs offered by the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, including retreats, conferences, service trips, pilgrimages, and other structured journeys.

These experiences provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage with religious, spiritual, and ethical traditions and worldviews in off-campus settings that encourage reflection, dialogue, spiritual growth, and community-building.

We meet students where they are and help them get where they are going.

Every participant arrives with different beliefs, questions, and life experiences. Multifaith Immersion Experiences create opportunities to explore those questions through travel, service, dialogue, and reflection. Whether participants are deepening their own tradition, learning from one another, or seeking a greater sense of meaning and purpose, these experiences encourage growth that lasts well beyond the journey itself.

Our multifaith immersion experiences focus on these themes:
  • Service and Justice
  • Pilgrimage and Sacred Travel
  • Leadership and Retreat
  • Interfaith Dialogue
  • Global education

Our past signature experiences include:

Service Immersion: Dominican Republic:

Participants explored the intersection of service, culture, and history through a week-long immersion in the Dominican Republic with Jewish Life. Participants volunteered in a local school while learning the remarkable story of Jewish refugees who found sanctuary there during the Holocaust. Daily reflection connected experiential and intercultural learning to personal growth.

Pilgrimage to Italy: In the Footsteps of St. Francis

The Elon Catholic community led a ten-day pilgrimage celebrating the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. Visit Rome, Assisi, and other sacred Franciscan sites while exploring the life and legacy of one of Christianity’s most beloved saints. Through prayer, reflection, and community, participants deepened their faith while experiencing Italy’s rich spiritual heritage.

Renaissance Scholars Retreat

This retreat brings Renaissance Scholars together to build community while exploring the history, global impact, and continuing contributions of the African Diaspora through reflection, dialogue, and shared experiences.

Interfaith Leadership Summit

Our annual trip to this interfaith leadership gathering, teaches students practical skills for dialogue, relationship-building, and bridge-building across religious and worldview differences. Participants return to Elon equipped to strengthen religious pluralism and foster inclusive communities on campus.
