The Women’s Law Association creates a system of educational, professional, and personal support and development for all individuals who are interested in women’s issues and the law. WLA focuses on the legal, social, cultural, educational, and political issues facing women on both a domestic and international level, as well as in the law school community. This purpose is carried out through many different activities throughout the school year.

The Professional Committee plans a semi-annual Coffee and Conversation Discussion series and an annual Women in the Profession Dinner. Each of these events is organized to encourage networking between the members of WLA and women in the legal community at large.

The Philanthropic Committee plans a charity event each fall semester. Past events have included fundraisers for Breast Cancer Awareness, self defense seminars and toiletry drives for Guilford County Domestic Violence Shelters. In March, the Philanthropy Committee hosts the WLA Annual Barbara Sullivan 5K Race for Women’s Health. Proceeds from the race are donated to a different women’s health organization each year. Previous organizations include the Brain Tumor Fund of the Carolinas, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Alzheimers North Carolina.

The Social Committee plans social events throughout the school year to encourage membership in WLA and camaraderie among its members.  Previous social events have included a Little Black Dress (or Pants!) Party, Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner, movie viewings and Fitness Fun Days at the YMCA.
