Student Health Insurance
Health Insurance Requirement Update
The June 1, 2026, deadline for Fall 2026 Health Insurance Requirement has passed. However, students may still submit a waiver request to opt out of the university-sponsored plan or enroll in the Student Blue Plan through the Student Blue Portal.
Waivers submitted after June 1 may result in the Student Health Insurance premium being applied to the student’s account: $1,966.20 for undergraduate students and $2,621.64 for graduate students. Once a waiver is approved, the premium charge will be reversed within three to five business days.

Student Health Insurance at Elon
All full-time students (undergraduate, graduate and law) are required to maintain adequate health insurance during their enrollment at Elon University. Although part-time students are exempt from this requirement, they may enroll in the Student Blue Plan. Additional information is provided below.
Having adequate insurance to cover medical emergencies and routine visits is an important aspect of student health and well-being. Students may fulfill the requirement through:
- Coverage as the primary subscriber on an employer-sponsored plan
- Coverage as a qualified dependent on a parent, guardian or partner’s employer-sponsored plan
- Coverage through a health insurance marketplace plan or other medical plan that covers emergency services in Alamance County
- Enrollment in the Student Blue Plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina
To meet the university’s Student Health Insurance Requirement, Elon offers the Student Blue Plan for all full-time undergraduate, graduate and law students. Students may waive enrollment in the Student Blue Plan by providing proof of existing insurance coverage, including an image of their insurance card, during the designated waiver period each academic year.
