About Jon Dooley

Jon Dooley, vice president for Student Life
Dr. Jon Dooley has served as Vice President for Student Life at Elon University since June 2017. As the chief student affairs officer for the university, he oversees 16 departments dedicated to enhancing student learning, fostering mentoring relationships, and cultivating a thriving campus community.
In addition to his administrative duties, Jon is an associate professor of education, teaching in the Master’s of Higher Education program and previously in the undergraduate Core Curriculum. Throughout his career, he has served as an instructor for graduate and undergraduate courses in leadership, diversity and inclusion, and college student personnel administration. His research and writing interests include service learning and civic engagement, leadership development, inclusive excellence, and student affairs in higher education.
Before joining Elon in 2014, Jon held leadership roles at Marquette University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, leading various student affairs functional areas, including leadership development, student activities and organizations, student government advising, fraternity/sorority life, music programs, and student affairs assessment. He is an active contributor to the student affairs profession, frequently presenting at national conferences and serving in leadership roles with professional associations. He is a former chair of both the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) Board of Directors and the NACA Foundation Board of Trustees and currently serves on the James E. Scott Academy Board for NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
Jon holds a B.A. in history and social studies education from St. Norbert College, an M.Ed. in counseling psychology from James Madison University, and a Ph.D. in educational policy and leadership from Marquette University. Originally from Wisconsin, he currently lives in Burlington, North Carolina with his wife Stacie, Assistant Dean of Career and Student Development for the Elon Law School, and their two children.
