Program Benefits
Scholarships: Five Freshman Leadership Fellows receive scholarships valued at $2,500 annually. This amount is in addition to any Presidential Scholarship received.
Leadership Courses: Fellows explore public responsibility and leadership in a special Global Experience seminar during the freshman year. Sophomore Fellows continue the academic component with Group Dynamics and Leadership, followed by a unique Winter Term course focusing on leadership in action that includes a travel experience. In the third year, Fellows complete their leadership studies by choosing Ethics and Decision Making or the Psychology of Leadership. Fellows also have the option of completing a minor in leadership studies.
Study Abroad Grant: All Leadership Fellows receive a $1,000 study abroad grant.
Special Mentors: Explore successful leadership traits from the Isabella Cannon Distinguished Visiting Professor of Leadership. Each year, a different national or international leader comes to campus to work with students. Former presidential adviser and historian David Gergen was the first Cannon Professor in 2004. Christine Todd Whitman, former administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and the first female governor of New Jersey, was the 2005 Cannon Professor. Ben Bradlee, vice president and executive editor of The Washington Post during the Watergate scandal, was the 2006 Cannon Professor. Bill George, former chairman and CEO of Medtronic, was the 2007 Cannon Professor.
