Program Benefits
Scholarships: Elon Teaching Fellows receive a total of $14,000 annually ($6,500 from the N.C. Teaching Fellows Commission and $7,500 from Elon scholarship funds and the N.C. Legislative Tuition Grant combined). This program is only open to North Carolina residents who are U.S. citizens. Fellows must teach for at least four years in N.C. public schools after graduation or repay the commission's portion of the scholarship.
American History Study Tour: This popular Winter Term event takes freshman Fellows on a bus tour of historic East Coast cities such as Philadelphia and Boston to deepen their knowledge of U.S. history.
Semester in London or Costa Rica: Sophomore Fellows intern at a state-run school and take General Studies courses taught by Elon and native faculty. Fellows pay no extra tuition, room or board, and Elon provides airfare. (Foreign language majors will study for a semester in a country appropriate to their language study.)
Leadership Seminar at the Washington Center: Junior Fellows spend Winter Term in Washington, D.C., to explore the inner workings of the federal government and learn how to become leaders in education.
Enrichment Experiences: Seminars on important issues in education, campus cultural events, volunteer tutoring and field trips to innovative area schools supplement Teaching Fellows' professional development.
