THE ENROLLMENT PERIOD IS CLOSED FOR THE SPRING 2026 SEMESTER.
WE CANNOT ACCEPT WAIVER REQUEST OR PROCESS ANY REFUNDS FOR THE HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUM. ALL ENROLLMENTS IN THE STUDENT BLUE PLAN ARE FINAL AND THE COVERAGE PERIOD FOR THE SPRING 2026 SEMESTER WILL BE FROM FEBRUARY 1, 2026 – JULY 31, 2026.
FALL 2026 Health Insurance Requirement will begin May 1, 2026 for incoming
new, readmitted, and transfer students for the upcoming Fall semester. The deadline
to submit a waiver request or enroll in the university offered insurance
coverage will be JUNE 1, 2026.
Returning/Current students for the Fall 2026 semester will receive an email in April and the deadline will be JUNE 1, 2026 to submit a waiver or enroll.
FALL SEMESTER IS THE RESET ENROLLMENT TIME, ALL STUDENTS, NEW AND RETURNERS WILL NEED TO SUBMIT A WAIVER OR ENROLL.
Please note: The Health Insurance Compliance Requirement is a semesterly process for the Fall and Spring semesters (each semester/every academic year). Look for emails early April 2026 to complete the Fall 2026 semester Health Insurance Compliance Requirement.
Health Insurance Requirement Update
The Winter/Spring 2026 Student Health Insurance requirement process is now closed. WE CANNOT ACCEPT WAIVER REQUEST OR PROCESS ANY REFUNDS FOR THE HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUM. ALL ENROLLMENTS IN THE STUDENT BLUE PLAN ARE FINAL AND THE COVERAGE PERIOD WILL BE FROM FEBRUARY 1, 2026 – JULY 31, 2026.
- For enrollment in the Student Blue Plan for the Fall 2026 semester, you will log onto the Student Blue Portal and select “Enroll for Plan”, this will provide coverage for the Spring 2026 semester starting August 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027.
- FALL 2026 Health Insurance Requirement will begin May 1, 2026 for incoming new, readmitted, and transfer students for the upcoming Fall semester. The deadline to submit a waiver request or enroll in the university offered insurance coverage will be JUNE 1, 2026.

- Students Studying Abroad for the Fall 2026 semester do not need to take action until the following Spring 2027 semester. Please call 336-278-7276 or email us at healthinsurance@elon.edu to discuss the Health Insurance Requirement for Study Abroad students.
- International students on F-1 or J-1 visas are required to enroll in the Student Blue Plan, regardless of credit hours. You will need to log onto the Student Blue Portal and fill out the enrollment information to be in compliance. If you do not have a US mailing address or a campus box number, please use the Office of International Student Services campus box address (2375 Campus Box – Elon, NC 27244) until you receive your assigned campus box address. Your insurance card will be mailed to 2375 Campus Box – Elon, NC 27244. You will be able to collect your card from the Office of International Student Services in the Global Neighborhood, Sato (building), office 313 or call Denise Teeters or Angela Shrader at 336-278-6700. Once you receive your assigned campus box address, you will need to update your mailing address to your assigned campus box address.
- If you’ve already created an account, log in to the Student Blue Dashboard to update your profile. For help accessing the portal, call Blue Cross Blue Shield at 800-579-8022.
STUDY ABROAD & STUDY USA STUDENTS – PLEASE READ!
If you are Studying Abroad for the Fall 2026 semester and have your own insurance you do not need to take action to waive (opt-out) with your own insurance. You will need to resubmit your waiver request during the Spring 2027 semester Health Insurance Requirement process.
Studying Abroad for the Fall 2027 semester currently Enrolled in the Student Blue Plan and want to continue your Enrollment in the University offered Plan, please email us immediately at healthinsurance@elon.edu to complete the process to enroll.
Returning from Study Abroad for the Fall 2026 – you will need to submit a waiver or enroll in the Student Blue Plan by logging onto the Student Blue Portal and “Request a Waiver or “Enroll For Plan”. IMPORTANT NOTE: An approved waiver or enrollment from the previous semesters for returning Study Abroad students will not automatically carry over once you return for the Fall 2026 semester, you will need take action to Waive or Enroll for the Fall 2026 semester.
Study USA Students for the Fall 2026 semester will be subject to the Health Insurance and Approved Waivers from the Fall 2026 semesters will be re-verified and Enrollment in the Student Blue Plan will be auto enrolled in the plan for the Spring 2027 semester. No action is needed if you receive an approved waiver or continue to be enrolled in the Student Blue Plan for the Spring 2027 semester.

Student Health Insurance at Elon
All full-time students (undergraduate, graduate and law) are required to maintain adequate medical insurance during their enrollment at Elon University. Part-time students are exempt from this requirement.
PART-TIME STUDENTS – PLEASE READ!
If you are Part-Time student you are not subject the Health Insurance Requirement however you can still enroll in the University Plan for coverage for the Fall 2026 semester by emailing us at healthinsurance@elon.edu to request to Enroll in the Student Blue Plan for the Fall 2026 semester.
If you are a Part-Time student currently enrolled in the Student Blue Plan for the Spring 2026 semester and need to continue your Enrollment in the University Plan for the Fall 2026 semester, you will need to email us at healthinsurance@elon.edu to request to continue your Enrollment in the University Plan for the Spring 2026 semester. (Students are not re-enrolled automatically for the Fall 2026 semester)

Having adequate insurance to cover medical emergencies and routine visits is an important aspect of the health and well-being of Elon students. Students may fulfill the requirement in several ways:
- Coverage as the primary subscriber on an employer plan
- Coverage as a qualified dependent on a parent/guardian/partner employer plan
- Coverage through a plan in the United States health insurance marketplace or Medical Plan that covers emergency services in Alamance County.
- Enrollment in the Student Blue Plan for Elon students through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina
To meet the university’s Student Health Insurance Requirement, Elon offers the Student Blue health insurance policy for all full-time undergraduate, graduate and law students. Students may waive the Student Blue policy by providing proof of existing insurance coverage (including image of their insurance card) during the designated time frame each year.
